My BELOVED WILDERNESS

"I have a garden of my own, But so with roses overgrown, And lilies, that you would it guess To be a little wilderness."

Andrew Marvell

Welcome to my blog!

This is a place for me to share my own experiences, reflections, frustrations and joys as I try to manage my somewhat neglected small garden in Oxfordshire.  I am an amateur (though very keen) gardener and am at my happiest when I pull on my wellies and go outside.  I'm also passionate about nature and this is something I am very keen to share with my two young children. I am always on the lookout for simple and low cost ways to amuse and engage my 6 year old son and 4 year old daughter in the garden and I will share any ideas that worked for our family in the "Little Explorers" section of my blog.

Whilst this is not intended as an advice page as such, I will also attempt to compile some useful information in the "Planting Notes" section, which I hope will be a source of inspiration and ideas.

I genuinely believe that nature is a great teacher and that great satisfaction and pleasure can be gained from growing your own plants, whether in an allotment, a flower bed, or a pot on the windowsill.  In my own garden, I am keen to use a planting scheme that encourages and sustains wildlife, whilst also creating an outside space that benefits us all as a family.

A modest garden contains, for those who know how to look, more instruction than a library.
